Historical Heritage
History & Origin of Chichawatni
Chichawatni was established in the early 20th century (1912–1913) as a planned canal colony town during the construction of the Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) system under the British administration. The town was named after the ancient local settlement associated with the Chhachhar tribe ("Watni").
The town was laid out in a grid pattern around the main railway line (ML-1) and circular road network, dividing commercial activity into numbered bazaars (Bazar No. 1 to 12), surrounded by fertile agricultural Chaks.
